Established in 2017 the Detroit Foundation Hotel celebrates the city’s past while creating an engaging experience moving it firmly into the future. The adaptive reuse combines the former 1929 Fire Department headquarters, and the neighboring Pontchartrain Wine Cellars into a 100-room hotel accented with finishes from local Detroit businesses and artisans.

The Detroit Foundation Hotel offers three customizable venues totaling 3,000 square feet. The fifth-floor event space, with exposed brick and 12’ ceilings, offers sweeping city skyline views, an outdoor terrace, and light installation from local artist Patrick Ethen for groups up to 120 people. Additional spaces include the mural adorned Meeting Room for up to 30 and the Boardroom with its custom Anton Maka Designs table for as many as 14 people.

There are 6 different room types inspired by the Motor City, our rooms feature touches from talented locals, such as iron-welded door handles from Smith Shop, in-room leather trays from Douglas & Co., wallpaper from the Detroit Wallpaper Co., hefty bottle openers from Woodward Throwbacks, and issues of TBD magazine, among others.

The Apparatus Room With spaces designed for socializing, creating, eating, drinking, and relaxing, the hotel brings together world travelers and neighbors and showcases Detroit’s legacy and knack for innovation. Acclaimed Chef Thomas Lents bridges the traditional with the tastefully modern for his imaginative New American menus. The menu is complemented by a list of unique wines, craft beers, and classic cocktails. Meals are enjoyed in the refined space that features plush leather couches and chairs, a modern light installation, and a u-shaped bar all totaling 4,600-square-feet.
